Dan Scales
Owner, President, Funeral Director and Embalmer

Dan Scales was born in San Francisco, California in the late 1950's to Patience and the late D.W. Scales. At the very early age of 4 years old, he announced that he would grow up to be a mortician and minister, while other children were playing games, he was imagining and pretending to direct funerals.

Mr. Scales married the former Brenda L. Mickle, to their union of twenty-nine and a half years, three now adult children were born, Julius, Justin & Stephanie Scales. He is also a grandfather of two grandchildren; Gabriella Milamarie and Joshua Nathaniel.

Mr. Scales is a graduate of Balboa High School and the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science where he graduated with honors in 1990. In 1991, he was ordained as a Gospel Minister.

Mr. Scales is a resident of Antioch. He is a licensed California Funeral Director, Embalmer, and Life Insurance Agent. He has worked and managed Bay Area local funeral homes for 20 years before purchasing his own funeral home, Dan Scales Funeral Services, Inc., in August of 2000.

Mr. Scales has been awarded with the East County NAACP President's Award 2002-2003, the East Contra Costa County Branch of the NAACP 2005 Service in Excellence and Leadership Award, the 2005 American Legion Award for Excellence in Military Funerals, the 2006 Business Person of the Year by the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce with certificates of recognition from the State of California Senator, Tom Torlakson, California Legislative Assemblyman, Mark DeSaulnier, and Contra Costa County Supervisor, Federal Glover. He has also been featured in the September 2004 American Funeral Director's Magazine. His title is servant and his passion is serving.

Brenda L. Scales
Co-Owner and Vice President

Brenda L. Scales was born and raised in San Francisco, California. She graduated from Balboa High School and married her sweet heart, Dan Scales in 1978. She later graduated from Contra Costa College with an AA in Business and from the College of Marin Dental Program. She is a proud mother of three adult children and the grandmother of two grandchildren.

After many years as a Registered Dental Assistant, in 2001 she left her job to help with the family business. Mrs. Scales works various areas of the business. The most important part of her job is serving and assisting each family in their time of need.

Socorro Duenas
Office Manager

Socorro Duenas was born in Los Angeles, California and moved to Pittsburg, California at a very early age. She attended schools in the Pittsburg and Antioch area. She graduated High School in 1992. Later attended school for Medical Assisting where she received a certificate of completion. She has worked in the funeral industry for 8 years of which 6 years have been with Dan Scales Funeral Services. She currently manages the office and is a Spanish speaking funeral assistant.
